Duchess Catherine's First Official Portrait, Love It or Hate It?

The Official Portrait of The Duchess of Cambridge.

Photos taken of the Duchess were used as a reference while the painting was being created.

Paul Emsley poses alongside his work.

The artist, Paul Emsley Duchess Catherine (, and the Duke of Cambridge at the unveiling of the Duchess' first official portrait.
Since the painting's unveiling on January 11th, the Official Portrait of The Duchess of Cambridge has been subject to a lot of harsh commentary. Many critics even say that the portrait makes the Duchess look older than she really is.
In response to these opinions, the artist, Paul Emsley, stated;  "I wanted to do something that would convey her true self, her natural self as she, herself, wanted … something that conveys something of her sense of warmth." I personally think that yes, the painting does portray the Duchess a little older looking, but there is a definite sense of warmth that you can see in her face.
The artist also revealed that he possesses an additional painting of the Duchess, which portrays her as "appears bright-eyed and young, refreshed, even playful," but the painting hasn't been revealed.
I can say that I really think it is a beautiful painting. Like said before, there is a warmth that radiates from the painting, not to mention the artistic talent shown in the painting.
The Duchess said of the painting "I thought it was brilliant, Amazing, Absolutely brilliant."
The Duke descried it simply as "beautiful."
 I personally agree.
