William and Kate Bid Farewell To Anglesey At Ring O' Fire Marathon

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made an appearance at the Ring O' Fire Coastal Ultra Marathon. This particular engagement marked Kate's first public engagement since five-week-old Prince George's birth. Prince George was reported to have been left at home in the capable hands of Grandma Carole Middleton.

Kensington Palace announced Prince William would officially start the race earlier this week, however, Kate's attendance was an added bonus for locals in Anglesey, and royal watchers. The family are due to leave next month, so I imagine the Duchess very much wanted to be there today to officially say goodbye. According to royal correspondent Rebecca English the decision  "boiled down to how Kate and George felt on the day. Perhaps the little rascal's night feeds are going well".

The race is pretty close to William and Kate's home on the isle, a rented four-bedroom farmhouse looking out over the sea, which the couple has called home for three blissful years. William said he had "never known somewhere as beautiful and welcoming", and promised he and Kate and their family would return "again and again" when he made his farewell speech at the Anglesey Show earlier this month.

The Cambridges arrived at 12.30 p.m. in a range rover and did a walkabout before the race started, much to the delight of the crowd.

They were both in high spirits and shared jokes with each other. They both look a little tired but parenthood is certainly agreeing with them both.

Ring O' Fire is an annual 131 mile coastal marathon circumnavigating the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales. The epic foot race is staged over three consecutive days and follows the rugged and spectacular coastal path around the island. The extreme distance and variable terrain places Ring O' Fire as one of the most extreme ultra marathons in the United Kingdom.

Almost all the coastline of Anglesey is a designated "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty", and runners will encounter a wide variety of terrain and may have the opportunity to see dolphins and seals, rare choughs, elegant peregrine falcons, not to mention puffins, razor bills, guillemots, gannets and the popular tern.

There was an informal feel to the event and the Duke and Duchess enjoyed chatting with participants, their families and some of the volunteers involved in the administration of the race.

Hundreds of people turned up to meet the royals.

How is Prince George? Kate revealed the little prince was sleeping at home.

Marian Wyn-Jones who spoke to reporters about her chat with Kate (my personal favourite quote from the day).
'We were talking about the joy she was having from George and how quick he was changing, she couldn't believe it. She said she's enjoying every minute of motherhood and George is getting quite huge'.

More from The Daily Post:

'The Duchess spoke to a group of local children, who handed her a bunch of flowers and a handmade butterfly-shaped decoration. Kate said thank you and added she would pass the decoration to George when she gets home as he loves bright colours. The couple spoke to Sarah Bingham, wife of organiser James, who is 37 weeks pregnant. Sarah asked about Kate and her son, George. Kate replied "He's really well. He's with his grandma". William and Kate were handed a pack of nappies to which William replied: "We've got a lot of these but we can always do with some more".

Kate was accompanied by her private secretary and right-hand woman Rebecca Deacon.

There was a rather awkward moment for the Duchess when she encountered nine-year-old George Bailey from Manchester. More from the DM Story:'As she bent down to chat, George told her matter of factly: "I don't see the point of a royal family". "Oh well, oh," Kate stuttered. Fortunately he then added: "Until today."'The Duchess opted for a casual look today wearing a stylish Ralph Lauren hacking jacket (with thanks to Marta). Kate has had the piece in her wardrobe for years and it's incredibly versatile. Paired with jeans and a simple top it dresses up the look adding a layer of polished sophistication.

As Kate's jacket is a past season piece it is unavailable, however, there are similar styles currently in stock at Ralph Lauren including the World Tweed Jacket, the Custom Riding Jacket and the Tweed Hacking Jacket.

Kate wore her printed Zara top with bow underneath the blazer. Kate has worn it on a few occasions, most recently during a trip to Arosa, Switzerland in March. It's a pretty, versatile piece which worked well with the blazer.

It was thought The Duchess wore her Paige Denim 'Skyline' Skinny Jeans (regular readers will recognise them from Kate's shopping trip to Waitrose earlier this week). The stretch denim is shaped into a sleek, skinny-leg style finished with a tapered, ankle-length hem. They're available for €125 in sizes 24-32 at Nordstrom.

A WKW reader mentioned they could very well be the Topshop 'Leigh' Maternity Jeans. It's not possible to see the distinctive details from photos, but reporters mentioned "they had it on good authority Kate was wearing her pre-pregnancy jeans"; however the 'Leigh' do look identical.

Kate completed the look with her Pied A Terre wedges...

...and Kiki Mc Donough 'Grace' earrings.

Today was one of the rare occasions we've seen Kate wear a watch; the Gucci piece features a stainless steel and gold plated bracelet and the Duchess has had it for years (with thanks to My Small Obsessions).
