Catherine Volunteers With The Scouts in the Snow

Yesterday the always busy Duchess of Cambridge spent the day yesterday volunteering at Great Tower Scout Camp at Newby Bridge, Cumbria. She traveled to the Camp by car after enduring a two and a half hour train journey to Oxenholme from London.

A scout volunteer, Catherine joined twenty other volunteers at the 250-acre scout activity center, learning some new skills to support her as a helper at her local scout group in Anglesey. Volunteers work with either Beaver Scouts (6-8 years old) or Cub Scouts (8-10 years old).

The weather wasn't exactly the kind for outdoor activities, but Catherine, along with the scouts, weren't detered from enjoying the snowy day.

The royal helped to look after a group of twenty-four scouts from Manchester and Columbia. Activities included outdoor cooking, fire-lighting, and tree climbing. (Although, needless to say, the latter was an activity she chose to not participate in due to her condition.)

The Duchess was one of the many who enjoyed making dough-twists with bread dough.

The Duchess was able to better understand the workings of the center on her tour with the activity center's manager.

Simon Carter, assistant director of the Scout Association spoke to The West Morland Gazette about Catherine's visit:
'For us Kate wanted to volunteer. She wanted to do something meaningful and if she can find the time to volunteer it demonstrates anyone can. We have 35,000 people wanting to join the Scouts but they can't because there aren't enough adult volunteers.'

As usual, the Duchess adopted warm but stylish outdoor getup.

The Duchess wrapped up in her Barbour jacket, a piece she's owned since 2009. The jacket is described as a "versatile jacket which offers you excellent protection against all weathers".

In her role as scout leader, the Catherine wore a Scout Scarf. The £8.50 UK Adult Scarf/Neck is primarily worn by Scouts travelling abroad. A commenter shared Catherine tied hers in the friendship knot today.

To add some glamour, Catherine opted to wear her Kiki McDonough Grace Earrings.

She also chose to don her outdoor essential - La Chameau Vierzon Nord Wellies. The neoprene-lined Wellington boots are available for $298.

To top it all off, a very appropriate stylish green  hat by Really Wild. The tweed is moss speck from a previous collection but this seasons Ivy Dogtooth Cap is a very similar shade and pattern. It's available for £49.
Given the inclement weather Catherine's look was all about layering. She also wore a grey shirt, a dark fleece and fingerless gloves.

You can view a video of the visit here.
